Maratropa

In Maratropa, any Twitter account can be visualized and explored as an abstract city within the jeweled lattice of the network.

Represented as floating structures that feel both sculptural and planetary, the cities/statues are all uniquely generated based on their source accounts.

Inspired by London based studio Variable, the color composition of each form are sampled from the user’s profile image, and the traffic that connects them together represents the size of their following.

Each city can be orbited from any angle, or exited by clicking on a follower. Jumping from stream to stream, the user can explore the full system of seemingly never-ending connections.

Maratropa was originally presented at 3DWebFest in San Francisco, California, in June 2015, and was a part of Web3D Art Gallery at The Cube, Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, in June 2017
